I don't understand why they spell "unhappy" half in hiragana and half in katakana...the whole thing should be katakana! That's why babelfish got confused with "bean jam" hahaha

Should be オンハピ o-n-ha-ppi

Stupid spelling:Image
Notice the white writing in brackets on the right hand side? Well that's the hiragana>Katakana spelling. o-n-ha-ppi

Another stupid spelling in Julien's post above....アンはぴっ This time A-n (katakana) ha-ppi(hiragana).

I don't know why the subscript "tsu" is where it is in both of the odd spellings (last character on both)...doesn't make much sense to me but maybe I've just forgotten how it works. :?

If you don't know, a small "tsu" is used to double the consonant in front of it, so on-ha-tsu-pi = onhappi otherwise it would be onhapi. In both the cases above, the small tsu came last and not before anything...which I don't understand.

Ok lol, calm down buddy. First of all, "あ" is "Ah" not "Oh", so both "あんハピっ!" and "アンはぴっ!" read the same.

With the mix of hiragana and katakana, there could be a few reasons. 1. Fujisawa is being creative in making an interesting title, 2. he's making an emphasized, clear divide between "Un" and "Happy" for whatever reason (might have something to do with the spelling, 3. Simply, it's very probable that it changes the way one would read it, either putting more emphasis on "Un" or "Happy". Sound effects in manga often cross between katakana and hiragana to give different effects.
I'm actually guessing the reason is a mix between all 3 points.

Anyway, yeah, the small tsu at the end of the word. Hehe, I'm guessing you don't look at much manga in Japanese? Next time you're flicking through your Bilingual GTO books watch out for it. In short, a small tsu at the end of a word is pretty much a Japanese version of an exclamation mark. Kind of. In essence what a small "tsu" does is tell you to cut off what your saying abruptly. Basically it's telling you that the "pi" is meant to sound really short. Wondering why there's an exclamation mark after the "Japanese exclamation" mark? Emphasis man, emphasis ;)

lol fair enough I get it now...man can't even read hiragana clearly anymore!
Really though, a bit of consistency would be nice. Do you think the mixup with the katakana hiragana is just a typo? (which is the official?)
An exclamation after an exclamation? That's childish!! hehe

I'm guessing what's on the cover is the real thing, and the thing that julien posted is a typo. And yeah, I know your joking but just thinking about it, calling a small tsu a Japanese exclamation mark probably wasn't the best comparison. Just check out some manga in Japanese and you'll get the feel for what it means.

Oh yeah, and I'll try to give you guys a translation of that text.

I think they should change the name to "The Bean Jam" to avoid confusion like this.

Black Heaven, "Kokuten" I think, is her last name.

What happened to this series of Fujisawa?
Were any scans of Unhappy released at all? I'm curious to read it!

Better late than never but I've released chapter 01 of Unhappy! Chapters 2 and 3 to follow.

The synopsis is as follows:

Quote:
Anko Kokuten, known as the “Jinxed Investigator from Division 1”, can solve any case. The problem is, she makes everyone UNHAPPY wherever she goes. Bad things always happen whenever she appears at the scene. That is until she gets partnered with Sakuraba, a police officer who seemingly has an incredible amount of good luck. Together, they become what the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department calls their strongest combination...

Also released is another Fujisawa oneshot I've never heard of called Elegy for the Errors of Cooking that has slight similarities to Oishii Kamishama in a sense that it's a comedy that explains how a certain dish is made with a gag at the end. It was included in Fujisawa's compilation book of unfinished manga and oneshots.
