OK guys, I know I could (probably should) have put this in the other thread I'm selfishly commandeering at the moment, but I like to keep these things separate for my own reference, hope that's not a problem ^^;

Basically these are translations I did MONTHS ago of the Japanese Wikipedia SJG page that I've just found amongst my files.
Some of the information is taken directly from the GTO B.A.D. Action books by the look of it, but other parts seem quite different and, as I always say, it can't hurt to aim for having everything translated; why should the Japanese fans have it all to themselves ?

Now just a note- while I may occasionally make the odd mistake in translation, rest assured that I have double-checked all this before posting (and reworked a FEW sentences to make it sound better); that said there were some facts mentioned that I think the Japanese Wiki contributor may not have got completely right, but I've translated it all as is since I have no other source to check against. Nothing major seems to be wrong, though- just wanted to point out that any oddities are (for once) not directly attributable to yours truly :)

Really, I think this is for the site itself, but since it's being worked on right now and I need somewhere to put it (plus you can take a look through it in advance) I thought posting it here would be a good idea ^^

This will probably be a very long post, so do please bear with me.

Onizuka Eikichi
鬼塚英吉

The main character of the story; a virgin. His main characteristic is his blond Regent hairstyle. He rides a Zephyr-750. His ‘tool’ is a ‘green turtle’. Phimosis.
Very forceful, he and Ryuji alone destroyed the Midnight Angels gang (later on it’s established that he is the 3rd generation successor), creating a well-known legend. Together with his best friend Ryuji, he aims to lose his virginity, but fate conspires against them with terrible luck. Eventually Ryuji does escape this burden, but despite having chances, in the end Eikichi can't lose his virginity.

In the past, he inherited the first-generation Midnight Angels leader Masaki Kyousuke's 'matoi'. He also inherited Kyousuke's motorcycle, a red ZII. However, due to the outbreak of large-scale fighting over the 'matoi' ('Second Great War of Shonan'), to avoid further useless conflict Eikichi destroyed it. After transferring to Tsujikou, many battles unfolded, and together with Ryuji they spread their names far and wide; however the legend grew out of proportion, and they grew tired of tearing about their hometown and lowered the curtain on everything by choosing to leave town.

It appeared that his relationship with Shinomi was going well, but in the end they didn't cross the line to a romantic relationship.
He's the main character but his background is a mystery; there was some kind of foreshadowing of something to do with his father, but it didn't come to light. His relationship with his young mother is more like a big sister and younger brother. In the continuation 'GTO', he is the main character, and becomes a middle-school teacher.

Danma Ryuji
弾間龍二

The other protagonist of the story. He rides a CBX400F. Unlike Eikichi, he has romantic scenes with women (Ayumi, Nagisa) and loses his virginity. He has a bigger ‘tool’ than Eikichi, a ‘mud-turtle’. After settling the dispute with Shindouji he started going out with Ayumi, but had his heart broken. Later he meets Nagase Nagisa, and goes out with her. His family is wealthy, but he's treated as a parasite by his father. After the incident with Akutsu he is kicked out. He lives with Nagisa, who had a similar family background, in an abandoned bus in the park, and successfully loses his virginity. (This results in Eikichi's furious dissolution of the Onibaku duo).
While going out with Nagisa, he moves into a crappy apartment with Eikichi, next door to which lives a woman who masturbates often; they intend to peep on her with Russian nightscope goggles, but in truth this 'woman' is a transvestite. Not knowing this, he sticks his dick in a hole in the wall, and gets blown by the transvestite. (Furthermore he's seen by Eikichi, Saejima, Katsuyuki, Nakajou and Tamura and others, as well as Nagisa. Rumours spread at school, and Nagisa avoids him for a while.)
Together with Eikichi, he goes through many 'fights to the death', but their legend becomes blown out of proportion, and he and Eikichi decide to end it and leave Shonan.
In 'GTO', after graduating from technical school he becomes the proprietor of a bike shop.

Tsukai Tsuyoshi
塚井強

He and Makoto became the Onibaku's first subordinates. During his Enoshima 4th middle-school days, he was one of the leaders among Nakajou's followers. He won't always just toe the line, and stands up to Eikichi, Saejima and others, but he has a loyal heart; his serious character leads him to suffer bloody urine. Having feelings for Itou, he challenged Eikichi for ignoring her. In the end he was defeated, but she discovers his feelings and they start going out. He goes around with a photo of her in his student notebook.
When he gets into trouble, he doesn't try to scare people off with the names of the Onibaku or Nakajou, as opposed to Katsuyuki or Hino who do the exact opposite- he manages to beat them both unconscious; his strength is pretty good. Although at first he gives the impression of being an underling, as the story progresses his character develops. In 'GTO', Saejima tells that after graduation he joined the Japanese Self-Defence Force, and married Itou.

Itou Yui
伊藤唯

Graduated from Kamakura 5th middle-school with Saejima and Kamata. During middle-school she was a tennis player. Studying for the 4th level English proficiency examinations. She liked Eikichi, but after discovering Tsukai's feelings she started going out with him. Tentatively a Yankee, there are scenes of her smoking cigarettes. Apparently, because in the past she'd immediately respond to a phone-call and say 'I'll give you a ride', she was called ‘Yellow Taxi' but in reality it appears that was a different Itou. In 'GTO', according to Saejima she and Tsukai had got married.

Hashiri Makoto
走真

With Tsukai, became the first subordinates of the Onibaku. Lips like a fish; has a large ‘tool’. From his middle-school days on, he was bullied. Originally he was forced to do errands for Saejima; when his suspension from school came to an end and the conflict with the Onibaku took place, he was unable to turn against him. However, he summoned up his courage and saved Eikichi from a dangerous situation. Sometimes he shows a manly side, but in the story his bluffs backfire, and he suffers misfortune often.
He's not very good at fighting but is pretty well-liked. He sleeps around, but after one girlfriend, Mami, mistakenly believes she is pregnant, he goes steady with her.
Incidentally, he surpasses Abe's ‘giant turtle’ with Gameraesque proportions.
For some reason, in the live-action version he's not a delinquent but looks like an otaku.

Hiroshi Abe
阿部寛

His strong point is getting girls. He transferred to Tsujikou after the Onibaku, from Mikasa in Hokkaido. Possessing skill in winning a girl's heart in a few minutes, then dumping her, his stock of girls is considerable. He's slept with over 100 girls.
Having expensive clothes and gear, his ‘tool’ is compared to a large turtle. After the 'second great Shonan war' he fades away and doesn't appear again. In 'GTO', Saejima tells that he manages a number of sex establishments and has great success but later goes through hardship and manages but one store. According to Saejima, Abe loses his hair, and becomes impotent.

Saejima Toshiyuki
冴島俊行

One of the 'Kamakura Mad-dogs', he hears that the Onibaku combi have taken over Tsujikou.
Since birth he's had the face of an evil person, and since his youth has been called a 'killer'; his parents can't accept him and his younger sisters talk to him through the chain lock on their door (his relatives are completely different to him).
His suspension from school lifted, he challenges Onizuka and is KO'd but afterwards joins up with them.
In his middle-school days, he made a hole in Maruyama's (a member of his group) nose with a sharpened pencil, but during the dispute with Shindouji the same happens to him. Afterwards he seeks revenge, but accidentally stabs himself instead and is sent to hospital.
After Kamata travels to the U.S., Saejima joins up with Kiwamezawa Usagi. In 'GTO' he has become a policeman.

Kamata Jun
鎌田純

He and Saejima together form the feared 'Kamakura Mad-dogs'. Half-American, half-Japanese, unlike Saejima he is a well-liked guy; he has a fan-club (when he left school, the schoolgirls even cried). When they went to the bathhouse, it's shown that he has no pubic hair, and is ridiculed by Eikichi. He has a younger brother.
Together with Saejima he tricks the Onibaku but in encountering Ryuji's counterattack, he recognises the Onibaku's strength, and thereafter was an ally of theirs. Once he lived in American military accommodation, but after the situation with Natsu, he moved to Kamakura and became violent. After Natsu's death, he inherited his dream, and with guitar in hand set off for America.

Fujisaki Shinomi
藤崎志乃美

One year below Eikichi. In middle school she was Eikichi's protegee, and she fell for him. At that time she was fat but by the time she comes to high school she's become a beauty. She was in a relationship with Takezawa Akira, the third-generation president of the Idaten gang, but on meeting Eikichi again she lost her feelings for him. After Takezawa left the Idaten, she dyed her hair blonde to change herself. Although she certainly likes Eikichi, she isn't honest about it. In the past, she studied karate so she's strong, but fundamentally she's a pure-hearted girl. When she appears in 'GTO', she's in charge of Nomura Tomoko's makeup.

Tsumoto Katsuyuki
津元克幸

In his middle-school days a hard-eyed fighter called 'Medusa', he picked fights with Eikichi innumerable times, but was always overlooked and beaten down. After that, it seems he became really loyal to Eikichi. After Eikichi pointed out how young his face looked, he took a cutter and made a scar on his own face. Making his name in many fights, he leads his own gang (the K.T. Team) and enters Tsujikou. Starting with the 'second great Shonan war', he collides with Enoshou's Tamura countless times. At the final stage, he thieves the Russian night-scopes coveted by the Onibaku, and in their name throws a stone through the window of the Yamikoutei gang's leader's house and picks a fight with them. Finally he forms the Onizuka bodyguard team 'Goblins' and causes a fray with the Dragon Fire group members; he's a really troublesome guy. However, he's not that strong in fighting tactics; by means of having the power of the name 'Onibaku' behind him, he's a 'fox borrowing the strength of a tiger'.

Yasuo
ヤスオ

A friend of Katsuyuki, and a member of the K.T. Team. Not knowing that Eikichi and Ryuji were the Onibaku, he picked a fight with them. When Katsuyuki goes to steal the Russian night-scopes, it seems that he gets beaten up. Has blond hair.

Atsushi
あつし

A guy who picks a fight with Eikichi all of a sudden. Self-styled 'Shogun of the North'.
Because he inherited the blood of his father, called 'Sandbag Sakaki', he has incredible resistance against being hit, and so his opponent gets tired out and leaves. In addition, his tendency to get the wrong end of the stick means that he has the impression that he's dominated Hokkaido. Later he transfers to Tsujikou, and harasses Eikichi and the others.

Tamaru Yoshio
田丸善男

A bullied child, often threatened for money by other students, but after he's helped out by Eikichi he harbours aspirations to escape this.
After receiving a memento of a chest from his deceased grandfather, he became a different person. Armed with a Confederate pistol he became the ringleader of the Atsuki Yagyou incident. In the end, to beat Eikichi in a checkmate situation he fired the gun, and was badly injured and defeated. He vanished after this. He rode a racing spec XJR1200.

Aoki Mafuyu
蒼樹真冬

A surfer who challenges the big wave 'Aileen' to avenge his deceased elder brother.
Often in conflict with Eikichi, there are numerous fight scenes between them. Strong in a fight, with only the air pressure from his fist he made Katsuyuki suffer a massive nosebleed. An express delivery boy and telephone club tissue hand-outer, he does various part-time jobs. He rides a Yamaha RZ350.

Kyoma
清間

A user of psychic powers, he's feared by students at other schools. According to Moroo Hiro, he's 'the dreaded possessor of psychic powers'. At will he can cause a wind to appear, with this ability he lifts female students' skirts. Saejima wants to become his student, but
seeing that all he can do against delinquents who pick a fight with him is to make their buttons fly off, he calls this off.

Moroo Hiro
毛呂尾拓

The guy who observes and researches Kyoma's psychic powers. He exaggerates that 'If he uses his powers, Kyoma can kill countless people', but the truth is revealed, and he admits it to Kamata and the others.

Mori Kunimitsu
森國光

A new freshman entering Tsujikou at the end of the story. In order to become Eikichi's bodyguard he set fire to the school, and this along with other factors increased the determination of the Onibaku's decision to retire. In fact, he's Katsuyuki's underling, and was in the baseball team in middle school.

Tokudaiji Kunihisa
毒大時有恒

Tsujikou's principal.
Hit on the head with a metal bat by Minamino Youkou, who was disguised as a member of the Kamakura Satsuriku Butai; caught up in the massive brawl between Minamino Youkou and Kiwamezawa Usagi, and possibly killed by being elbowed in the face by the former, he encounters suffering until the end.

Murakoshi Ayumi
村越鮎美

She and Mariko, pretending to be college students, are hit on by Eikichi and Ryuji on Yoron Island before the Onibaku transfer to Tsujikou. She was going to have sex with Ryuji, but they stopped beforehand. A short time later, their complicated relationship continues, but after the Shindouji affair the two decide to marry. However, she argues with her parents about it. She realizes that she can't marry Ryuji, resigns and returns to her hometown, but later on she comes back to Kanagawa and works as a carer in a kindergarten. Afterwards she meets Ryuji again, but they've both moved on in their lives since they separated.

Izumo Mariko
出雲真理子

Ayumi's close friend and colleague. The daughter of a Yakuza boss, she goes to Yoron Island with Ayumi, and the two are hit on by Eikichi and Ryuji. She intends to have sex with Eikichi, but they don't go that far. In the past, she was a member of the Purple Haze gang led by Kadena Nao, and admired her. Kadena calls her 'Ma-ko'. In the story, her hair often changes.

Minamino Youkou
南野用高

The skinheaded homeroom teacher when Eikichi and the others have to repeat the year. He's employed to reform the delinquents who have all been placed in his class. A representative of Kantou Combat Karate. He's arguably one of the strongest characters in the story, so to defeat him Eikichi and the others find out about, and threaten to expose, his massive loli-con fetish. He's forced to act weak and can't take action against them, and is made to do whatever they say. Later, because of fighting with Kiwamezawa he's chased by the police; while escaping he goes to attack Ryuji, but is trampled; after this his whereabouts are unknown.

Kadena Nao
嘉手納南風

The teacher who takes over Eikichi et al's homeroom in the place of Minamino Youkou. Before, she took charge of a delinquent school and all the students she taught managed to become eligible for places in the Tokyo 6 universities; she made the class results improve. On her back is a tattoo of the Virgin Mary. In the past she was the head of the Purple Haze gang, and was called 'Purple Haze's Maria', and raced the legendary 'Last Signal'. She drives a purple Kenmery. Also, in the past she came into contact with Masaki Kyousuke, and in that way crossed paths with Eikichi. Unbeknownst to others, her younger brother competed with her in the 'Last Signal' race, and was involved in an accident and is in a coma. She works as a teacher as well as in a high-class club in order to pay for equipment to allow her brother to be cared for at home. Furthermore, in the 'GTO' anime, she takes the place of Moritaka Naoko in the school infirmary, and races against Eikichi, now a teacher, in the Last Signal race.

Shindouji Fumiya
神堂寺郁也

Appearance is a long-haired guy with sunglasses. The younger brother of Ayumi's fiancee, and close to Ayumi. However, his brother died in an accident. His beloved memento of his brother is his V-MAX. Entering Kyokukou, although 10 seniors attacked him, he rose to the position of head of the school. Beginning a fight with Tsujikou, he sent Eikichi to the hospital and kidnapped Ayumi, but he lost to Ryuji in a bike challenge and entered reform school. After coming out of reform school, he lent a hand in Akutsu's escape. He's the type of person who only remembers the names of those stronger than himself. A self-styled masterchef, his specialty is stew.

A strong character, he suggests the one-on-one fight between Ookubo and the injured Eikichi, and helped Eikichi out of Ookubo's trap by alerting his friends. After Ookubo's defeat, Natsumi gets pregnant, and the two live together.

Ookubo Mitsuaki
大久保光明

Former 'Mandala' special member. Known as 'Slasher' Ookubo. It was thought that he'd entered reform school for murdering someone, but that was an exaggeration of the facts; in reality he wasn't in reform school. However, the truth isn't definitely known.
A familiar face at Kyokukou, and has links with Yakuza. Once in a fight with a middle-school aged Eikichi, he inspired a great fear in him.
At any rate he has a cowardly character, taking advantages of opponents' weaknesses, and would do anything to win. Catching an injured Eikichi in a trap, he's beaten so badly he's unrecognisable.

Imaihama Yoshizou
今井浜吉蔵

The Onibaku's 'younger brother', first-year leader. Aims to go to university.
At the order of his homeroom teacher, he had to go and have his head shaved at the barber's, but instead Eikichi, who went in at the same time for a haircut, had his head mistakenly shaved. During the Shindouji conflict, he kept the Onibaku informed on what was going on.

Together with Joey, he aimed to bring down the Onibaku and dominate Shonan, but because Joey was defeated, he had to abandon that plan. His beloved vehicles are a Honda CB750F Integra and Kawasaki ZZR1100.

From his words, it appears he once challenged Masaki Kyousuke in a bike race and lost (it can be assumed that he was also acquainted with Akutsu during this time) Also, on one occasion Shinomi falls for him.

Minazuki Saya
水無月沙也

The young lady who leads the Ladies' [Yokosuka Enbutou] gang. She rides a KH250.
Her hobby is ‘having fun’ alone while reading porn magazines. She's been doing this since the first year of middle school.
After his victory in the confrontation with Joey, Eikichi is attracted by her, and the two proposed to take over the entire country.
When Shinomi intrudes while Eikichi is trying to seduce Saya, she calls Shinomi 'hag' and a fight to the death with knives and beer bottles begins.
Incidentally, Nakajou (who tries to mediate) ends up bashed on the top of the head with a 2x4.

Hino Kenkichi
火野剣吉

Ryuji's 'younger brother', from before he met Eikichi. He rides a CB400SF. His relationship with Katsuyuki is bad; he's the cause of Tsukai's kidney stones. Katsuyuki forms the Onizuka Bodyguard squad 'Goblins' with Mori, so in response he forms the 'Dragon Fire' gang. This is one of the factors that influences the Onibaku's retirement. He sells Onibaku stickers without permission, but comes into contact with the Blue Rose gang.

Kiwamezawa Usagi
極沢うさぎ

One of the strongest characters in the story. Really likes Sailor Moon. Looks the same as everyone in his family except his parents. His name and those of his siblings are all related to Sailor Moon (Ami, Rei, Setsuna etc). He never flushes the toilet after using it. Incidentally, his true strength is body odour. He has no friends, and Saejima, seeing someone with a scarier face than he himself, thinks that he will look more handsome by comparison; using a Sailor Moon figure to tempt him, he forms a new Kamakura duo. Despite being a monster matching Minamino Youkou, he's basically harmless.

Hazuki Misato
葉月ミサト

The girl Onizuka falls in love with, but was actually a gender-confused male. Once belonging to the Idaten, fell in love with Takezawa. Of course, she knew Shinomi as well. A popular transsexual performer, she is wealthy and lives in a top-class apartment. Expert at housework (her aptitude makes Nagisa weep). Intending to go to Tokyo with Eikichi, he waits on the platform but in the end she leaves on her own.

Kamata Kaoru
鎌田薫

Kamata Jun's younger brother. Abuses his girlish face, he wears female clothing and works as a one-man con artist. Taught how to fight by Jun. Traps Eikichi, but after being beaten he is taken with his strength. However, he falls in love with him, and gets the bad habit of only wearing women's clothing around him. Noone tells Eikichi the truth of the matter. After Kamata leaves for America, he doesn't appear again.

Joey's elder brother
ジョーイの兄

Real name undisclosed. Has dreadlocked hair and sunglasses. He rides a Yamaha 'Orange Bluebird' R1-Z (TZ spec).
Despairing for his brother who risks his life, he begs Eikichi to kill him while crying and kneeling before him.
After Joey falls into the sea during the Seisho race, he jumps in after him and saves his life.

Youko
ヨーコ

Joey's former lover. She suffers from the same sickness as he does. She met Joey while hospitalised, and together they slipped out of the hospital. They lived together, but even with the medicine they took with them from the hospital, her condition deteriorated. Her last wish was for Joey to strangle her to death. This left Joey with serious mental scars.

Yarita Aina
槍田想奈

Appears in the first 2 volumes. A pupil at the 89% beautiful girl-filled Filas Girls' School. In truth, she caught venereal disease through promiscuity; she's called 'Yariman (slut) Aina'. Initially she intended to infect Eikichi with the disease, but after he saves her from Machida she falls in love with him, and on a ski trip she ties him up against his will. He insults her and she gives up on herself. After that, Eikichi sets her straight.

Shirayuri Momoko
白百合桃子

Aina's best friend. Has a crush on Ryuji, and considers Ayumi as a rival. She takes matters into her own hands, but in the end gives up.

Machida
町田

Former Highschool boxing champion. He has a hidden knuckleduster on his fist, and once beat down Eikichi. After that, he forces Aina to go around with him, but is overwhelmed by the Onibaku's counterattack.

Hayama Akira
西條あきら

A younger student who has a crush on Onizuka. Holds her drink well. Can tie a cherry stalk with her tongue.

Wow that's awesome! I was able to learn a fair amount of new things. For example, I didn't know that Natsu's sister was raped by American soldiers, all I knew was that they were a group of thugs.

Yeah, see that's an example of what I consider to be possible errors by Japanese wikipedia contributors....I remember the gang who assault her look nothing like soldiers and just like regular thugs, so I would doubt they were soldiers, personally. If this was to be included on the site at any stage, I'd rework the whole thing to be more accurate I think; as is it's just a direct translation of the original info ^_^

It's great !

Could you put the kanji name just next to the romanized name? I like to see the names in kanji ^^

Wow it's excellent. I think it could be a good idea to have short bits of information like this on the site for now, and just get as many characters on there as possible.

@julien: hm, getting all the kanji's a fair bit of work. Can you read hiragana? If so you can find the kanji with the hiragana next to it on the wikipedia page.

Thanks guys, always nice to hear feedback (although I did this so long ago I almost feel guilty being praised for it ^^')

Kanji added as per Julien's request.

One thing I would just like to suggest here- that these not be considered THE definitive character profiles (nor even the basis thereof). I think we can make a much better job of it ourselves through collating all the information we have from different sources (namely the manga itself, the anime and live action [albeit as sidenotes], the GTO B.A.D. Action books, the other character book, and the profiles taken from the first edition SJG books) at a later stage. It just seems to me that these, while of some minor interest, should perhaps be listed just as 'Character profiles from Wikipedia Japan' in a side section somewhere ^^;

As BL suggests, it'd be fine to have these up now, but only as a placeholder for the final profiles, then shunt these off somewhere else. I mean, I can think of about 20 characters this list misses, some fairly major; this is literally just a direct rip of the Japanese page without any of the really quite major changes I personally would make before saying it's anything NEAR definitive.

Hope I haven't been blathering TOO much, I do appreciate everyone's...appreciation though :D

Just about ready for bed now, but I think I'll start up the Character Bios planning thread again in the Homepage sub forum and put all our options out on the table.

I know this is pretty off topic, but something I've always been meaning to ask you about. You know that blond guy that's like Kashiya's right hand man? Is he ever named? For some reason, even though he sometimes looks borderline junkie I've always found him a little intriguing. Who the hell is he? It feels like he's worthy of a character profile yet it doesn't seem as though he has a name.

B_L: Damnit, that is one of the things I've always been most irritated by. Fujisawa is so meticulous with character names usually (even much more minor characters are generally given both names). The only thing that MIGHT provide an answer is if he was mentioned in passing somewhere by another character and I've missed it; recently I did look through the manga but found nothing at all. (Perhaps the English version will help here? I've still only got round to buying the first volume ^^' Don't recall what number we're up to at the moment, though...probably not far enough along?)

Julien- thanks for the help :)

he should be in volume 22 and 23, and appears next to Kashiya (the 'tobacco guy') at the fight between Joey and Eikichi in vol. 22 and all through vol. 23. He looks sort of like Kamata. I've searched through the Japanese volumes, but I could easily have missed his name being mentioned somewhere.

Good luck in your quest!

his name is not told >.< but he seems he was in midnight angel or something because he recognize the ZII at first sight and he is more for Onizuka than for Joey ^^

Well, thank you for checking, Julien- to be honest I really didn't think his name was ever mentioned, though

As for his being a Midnight Angel- I guess it's possible, but really I think Masaki was famous in Shonan and the surrounding areas for his 'legendary' crimson ZII- loads of characters seem to know it ^^
