Well, looking through my GTO B.A.D. Action guidebooks for the first time in ages, I came across a neat little section where Eikichi's old SJG buddies give their reactions to the news that he's become the Great Teacher we all know and love. I thought I’d post my translations because I found some of the comments quite funny.

‘He’s a teacher!?’

Kamata Jun- ‘better here in America than Japan’

Whoa, it seems that while I’ve been studying here in New York aiming to become a musician, Japan’s schools have really changed a lot?! I’ve heard that these days junior high students are violent, but…a gorilla like Eikichi becoming a teacher…?
That said, where I live in America it’s not unusual to have metal detectors in the school gates because the students carry guns…yeah, never mind delinquents and fistfights, you’ll get shot up with a machine gun. Eikichi might be better off as a teacher over here, considering what he went through during highschool.

Abe Hiroshi- ‘the best example ever of “what not to beâ€

Haha, this was a very interesting read! I like Saejima "Not shoot any more people". Very cool! 8)

Heheh, I've had these books for a good few months now and I've been meaning to get round to translating some of the more interesting SJG-related parts, so hopefully I'll get some more done soon...there looked to be some interesting mentions of Onizuka's dad in there somewhere as well.

RealOne, Ugly Pig, Nosajj, Julien, BL, OnibakuSJG- thanks for the appreciation :D Although it's kinda fun to do, it's just some of the kanji that have to be checked that takes a while ¬_¬

BL- it's on pages 94-97 in the first B.A.D. Action book (about the translating...I'm always reluctant to post this kind of thing since it always seems to me that I could have made a massive stupid mistake somewhere or other, but...I guess it's all part of learning, heheh :) )

OnibakuSJG- actually, it's because I've been lax in my forum visits -_-
but since I've finished my uni work for a few months, I can hopefully get some more stuff translated and posted for perusal soon.

EDIT: wouldn't it be awesome if official translations of the GTO guidebooks were released after SJG finishes? I know it seems unlikely, but didn't we say that about SJG itself? I can dream, anyway

Agreed. But, also... Still no word wether or not Bad Company will be released... :?

Yeah, I had forgotten Bad Company...I think if SJG sells fairly well they will just bring it out as well, but then there's no way to be sure unfortunately :?

I've done the bit about Onizuka's parents from pg 136-7 of the second B.A.D. Action book, because I wanted to remind myself of what it said...I've translated it before, but I did it again to make sure I didn't miss anything:

Onizuka, until the age of 17, lived with his mother (a club hostess) in an exclusive/ high-class/ luxury apartment block. His mother is a beauty whose youthful clothing suits her well; a shrewd person who says to customers 'let's go to Hawaii together'. (1)
Because she's a hostess, she's adored as a 'big sis' type, but within the confines of her family she brawls with Eikichi (describes some kind of hip-strike thingy)- she's an energetic mother. A bad-mouthed, quick-to-strike mother is, however you look at it, the intense character of a former Yanki. (2)

Even in front of other people: 'You can gimme some cash whenever, you damn hag'
'Who's a 'damn hag'. Call me 'miss' (lit. 'big sister)'
'Who's a 'miss'. (Here follows some weird insult about her nipples o_O that doesn't make sense in English)'
'You shit...(something about...I hate to say...his foreskin ¬_¬ that again doesn't really make sense as an insult in English particularly)
When Onizuka is apprehended for violent behaviour by the police, she says 'that isn't my son' and leaves him to it.
On the other hand, his father, for whatever reason, left the family, and his whereabouts and condition have been unknown for a long time. It would seem that Machiruda, the tea house proprietor, an influential member of the first generation of the legendary SPEED gang, is a long-time acquaintance of the Onizuka family.
When Machiruda discusses his father with him, Onizuka smiles sadly and says that he doesn't have a father.
Whereas his mother unconditionally seeks her husband's whereabouts, Onizuka, who is a man too, probably won't forgive his father that easily. (3)
Also, Machiruda, upon seeing the high-schooler Onizuka, muttered 'Like I thought...he has come to resemble his father, hasn't he...' Onizuka's father was probably the first generation SPEED leader. (4)
This means that Onizuka carries the role of Shonan's figurehead racer, passed down from father to son.

(1) (I think I've found the origin of the misconception from that old French site that she is somehow related to...well, the sex industry- the sentence uses 'yarite', meaning 'a shrewd, able, resourceful person'- I think this means in the context of becoming popular with customers by sweet talking them as the sentence explains- but 'yaritebaba' (baba as in 'old hag') means 'brothel madam'. Since everything else seems to imply she's just a club hostess and nothing more, I think this is either a playful phrasing or the two are really completely unrelated and it's a coincidence; either way I see how it could be misunderstood- see here for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hostess_club http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mamasan - the Japanese text calls her a mama in this context)
Also, I can't tell whether this line means 'she says ''let's go to Hawaii' to customers' or 'she goes to Hawaii with customers'- possibly the latter since we see her return from a trip in the manga...also that might make more sense with 'shrewd'- she sweet-talks them into it? Or something...?

(2) The first time I translated this, I mistook it as saying basically ‘this foul-mouthed, violent mother is far above a Yanki, however you look at it’; I think this is more accurate, and seems to be another neat insinuation which amounts to Eikichi being a born and bred, natural hoodlum since his parents were both just the same in their youth ^_^

(3) I think this is saying, basically, that Eikichi’s mother cannot understand the raging masculine tension that would exist between her son and husband, or something…I’d love to have seen Eikichi facing off against his old man (who presumably can handle himself) at some point, pissed off at his abandonment, or…something. I can dream…

(4) Since this is a pretty major factoid, I just want to clear up the exact translation of this line: おそらく、鬼塚の父親は初代「SPEED」のリーダー。

Osoraku- literally ‘probably’ (not ‘possibly’)
Onizuka no chichioya wa shodai ‘SPEED’ no ri-da- - Onizuka’s father is/was the first generation ‘SPEED’ gang leader.

I think the SPEED gang first gets mentioned in vol. 11, but this is not a spoiler of any kind in my opinion as nothing is ever found out about Eikichi’s dad other than the very vague mentions alluded to above where Machiruda says ‘any news of your pop?’ and Eikichi says ‘I don’t have one’.

Sorry for the massive post, but I thought some of these facts were cool :)

Wow that's really great work man. Onizuka's dad being the shodaime of SPEED, man couldn't think of anything more fitting. I guess he's not the porn video shop owner after all :P.
Sorry I can't post a more comprehensive reply but I'm really short on time at the moment!
